Finned Heat Exchangers

What factors can affect the heat transfer effect of finned heat exchangers?

Many equipment will have high temperature after long-term operation, and if you do not use a finned heat exchanger to dissipate heat, some of the performance of the equipment will be affected, so the quality of the finned heat exchanger can determine the efficiency and life of the equipment.

So what factors can affect the heat transfer effect of finned heat exchangers?

  1. The spacing of the fins The high-quality fin heat exchanger has multiple fins, and there is a fixed spacing between each piece, and the width of the spacing will affect the heat exchange effect of the fin heat exchanger, especially for the type of heat exchanger affected by eddy current, the heat exchange will increase with the decrease of the fin spacing. However, when the air flow rate is higher and the number of tube rows is large, the influence of fin spacing on the heat transfer coefficient can be ignored.
  2. Number of pipe rows

For flat finned heat exchangers, when the number of tube rows is large, the fin spacing is relatively small, and the Reynolds number is low, the number of tube rows will have a greater impact on the heat transfer characteristics. This is due to the influence of the boundary layer, and the heat transfer factor decreases with the increase in the number of tube rows. For corrugated finned heat exchangers, the heat transfer coefficient increases with the increase of the number of tube rows in the case of high Reynolds numbers.

  1. Pipe diameter

If a flat fin heat exchanger is used, the larger the diameter of the heat exchanger, the larger the ineffective area after the tube, so the size of the pipe diameter will directly affect the heat transfer effect, and the smaller the diameter of the heat exchange tube, the better the heat transfer effect. In addition, other types of finned heat exchangers, if the small tube diameter is used, can also increase the heat transfer coefficient outside the tube and reduce the pressure drop loss.

In summary, the distance between the fins, the number of tube rows used and the diameter of the heat exchanger tube will affect the heat transfer effect of the fin heat exchanger, but the first-class finned heat exchanger manufacturers have a variety of different types of heat exchangers, and each type of fin heat exchanger is affected by these aspects to a different extent, so to obtain the best heat exchange effect to carefully consider the selection and influencing factors.
