Precautions when using weather resistant steel plate

Q355NH steel plate

Weather resistant steel plate refers to a low-alloy high-strength steel that has good corrosion resistance in the atmosphere by adding a small amount of alloying elements. The atmospheric corrosion resistance of weather resistant steel plate is 2-8 times that of ordinary carbon steel, and the longer the service time, the more prominent the corrosion resistance. In addition to good weather resistance, weather resistant steel plate also has excellent mechanics and welding properties, and is widely used in railway vehicles, bridges and containers.

Weather resistant steel plate is not stainless steel, it will rust like ordinary carbon steel in the early stage, but the situation is different in the later stage. After the weather resistant steel plate is corroded for a period of time, due to the enrichment of trace elements such as Cu and P on the steel surface, a dense amorphous rust layer structure is formed, which is very firmly combined with the matrix. This stabilized rust layer can resist the intrusion of moisture and harmful ions in the atmosphere to a certain extent, and prevent further corrosion of the base metal.

When weather resistant steel plate is used, it can be painted, bare or stabilized. The requirements for coating are the same as those of ordinary carbon steel. It is particularly important to point out that this material can be used without painting, which is the most prominent advantage of weather resistant steel plate. In areas where there is no serious air pollution or not particularly humid, weather resistant steel plate can be exposed to the atmosphere directly without coating. Generally, after years, the rust layer will gradually stabilize, corrosion will no longer develop, and the appearance will be beautiful chocolate color. Because weather resistant steel plate has no paint aging and other problems, it does not require painting and maintenance, which greatly reduces the maintenance cost, and of course, it avoids the loss caused by the effect of painting on use.
